Alcohol Policy

Alcohol at Events

The Regents of the University of Minnesota have approved an alcohol license for the Kirby Student Center building, the Kirby Terrace, and the plaza between Kirby Student Center and Kirby Drive (“the licensed venue”). The license allows UMD Fresh Leaf Catering Services to serve alcohol at approved events in the licensed venue, rather than requiring customers to contract with a third-party vendor for alcohol service.

Kirby Student Center/Welcome Desk Hours of Operation

NOTE: "Operating Hours" = staffed Kirby Welcome Desk hours (billiards equipment, room keys, poster approval, etc.).

Kirby Lounge is always open for studying or gathering UNLESS otherwise noted

Event Planning

There are two steps to submitting an event for approval:

1) Reserve your desired space in Mazevo. Your reservation is not final until you receive a confirmation email from Kirby. If you have setup or reservation questions, contact Gina Pudlick in Kirby.
ℹ️  Only a student member of any registered student organization may make a reservation for space. Advisors or other non-student members are not permitted to make reservations on behalf of an organization.

Communications and Marketing

Message Contents

Messages may be solicitations (sales of items) or informational/promotional (recruitment or event publicity). Regardless of the type of message, there are required pieces of information that must be included in the messaging.

Communications and Marketing

Student organizations may request mailing lists for the purpose of targeting fundraising sales, recruiting new members, or promoting an event.

Policy

The University adheres to the provisions of state and federal privacy and records laws. To learn more about access to University data, please review the policy on Public Access to University Information from the Office of General Counsel.

Reserving Space

One of the privileges of registration for student organizations is the ability to reserve space on campus at no cost for most events. There are three campus systems used for space reservations: Mazévo, for Kirby Student Center; this form, for Sports & Health Center facilities & fields; and Astra, for all other spaces. All three systems will require your UMD login.
