Policy: Kirby Garage

General

  • Registered Student Organizations (RSO), Campus Life Programs (CLP) and UMD departments may book the Kirby Garage online. (Reserve the space here)
  • Reservation requests must follow the Priority Scheduling Policy.
  • When there are no scheduled events taking place in the Garage, the space is available for UMD students and departments to use on a walk-in basis. The Garage door must be closed and used for special programming events. To access the Garage for a walk-in reservation, check in at the Welcome Desk.

Special Programming Events

  • “Special programming” events are permitted in the Garage and in these cases, the door can be opened. RSO, CLP, and UMD departments must provide a detailed description of their interactive event with their reservation request.
  • Special programming events that have a pre-existing reservation may have elements that can be heard in the Kirby Lounge. In these cases, the scheduled events have priority over casual television viewing and casual use of the Kirby Lounge.
  • Special programming events held in Garage must be mindful that students cannot form lines in the hallway to interact with the event; in those cases, a tabling reservation in the Kirby Commons is more appropriate.
  • Kirby Student Center reserves the right to control the use of all sound levels (music, video, live performance, etc.) Depending on the nature of the event in the Garage, Kirby Student Center staff will determine the maximum volume and range of amplified and un-amplified sound. These levels will be set prior to the event and will be communicated to the event planners.

Kirby Student Center reserves the right to cancel an event at any time, or move it to the general tabling area (if space is available), if the activity does not meet the criteria noted within the Garage Policy.

Failure to comply with policies for the use of The Garage may result in the loss of reservation privileges, or formal or informal sanctions as provided for in the Student Organization Handbook, Kirby Student Center House Policies, and/or the Student Conduct Code.
