Postering is one of the most popular ways to promote events or recruit members for student organizations. Posters are subject to approval by the Kirby Welcome Desk for hanging across campus in approved posting areas, and by Housing & Residence Life staff in 149 LSH for hanging in residence halls.
Posters must include
The sponsoring organization and complete contact or event information
A space for staff to place the approval stamp and date.
All events publicized on campus must be submitted and approved events in BulldogConnect before they can be approved at the Kirby Welcome Desk for approved posting.
Posters from external organizations may not be posted in approved posting areas; they may only be posted in the two open posting areas (near Superior Dining and in the Bohannon Ven Den).
Student organizations are responsible for the cost of any posters produced. The UMD Print Shop is one on-campus resource for printing posters, in both 11" x 17" and a variety of other sizes.
Please review the entire posting policy in the Kirby Policy Library, including a map of approved posting areas.
Poster Pointers
Less is more. Most people will not stop to read the small print on a poster. Make sure that the most important information (date, time, organization) is large, bright, and easy to read
When creating a poster that will be used for digital displays, consider using an easy-to-remember URL or other online address where people can get more information in a large font. A QR Code from a BulldogConnect event can accomplish this easily
Posters don't fly. A poster is designed to deliver basic information that is quickly absorbed: who, where, what, when, and how (or how much). A flyer is designed to give more information, to be put into a person's hand for them to read more carefully. Remember this difference when creating a poster. More information on distribution of literature is in the next section.
