Policy: Posting and Postering

IMPORTANT:
All events posted on campus by a student organization must first be approved in Bulldog Connect.

Also: Postings must be sponsored by a student organization or UMD department and noted as such on printed and digital material.


Paper Posters

  • Poster printing is the responsibility of the student organization and UMD department. All posters must be approved by the Kirby Welcome Desk before anything is posted.
  • Posting areas 1-10: one poster per posting area
  • Maximum poster size: 11x17”
  • Paper postings in all locations must use blue painters tape or masking tape unless otherwise specified in the location notes. Blue painters tape is preferred. Duct tape, packaging tape, glue dots, poster putty, and staples are prohibited.
  • Nothing may be posted to the floor in any areas of Kirby Student Center.
  • Welcome Desk staff will monitor the posting areas weekly and remove dated material.
  • General distribution of literature is not permitted in Kirby Student Center. Materials that are found in Kirby Student Center without permission will be removed.
  • Kirby Student Center reserves the right to remove any posted materials that violate the policies as stated below.
  • Students and staff are prohibited from removing posters belonging to other organizations or departments.

Pillars

  • Locations
    • Lounge, Porch and 101 pillars
      • These are reserved for Kirby Student Center-related events only. They are not reservable by any other department or organization without special permission.
    • Commons pillars
      • Commons pillars are reserved for use by organizations or departments using the tabling area. Signage used by those at tables must be removed at the end of the tabling shift.

Other locations within Kirby Student Center

  • Porch Railing Glass
    • Posting will be permitted on a case-by-case basis. Postings on the railing glass must be attached with transparent Scotch-style tape only.
  • Table tents
    • Table tent space is reservable in Mazevo for one week at a time.
    • Table tents must measure no more than 8.5x3.75”, either vertically or horizontally.
    • There is a limit of 20 table tents per reservation.
    •  The event or program promoted on the table tent must be student-focused.
    • KSC will be responsible for removing table tents at the end of the week.
  • Directional signage
    • Directional signage for special events must include date of event, name of event and location.
    • The coordinators of the event are responsible for removing postings after the event.
    • Directional signage may be attached only to wall surfaces, only using blue painters tape.

Banner Spaces

  • Student organizations and departments may post a 4x3’ banner in specific areas within Kirby Student Center with a reservation made through Mazevo.
  • Banners may remain posted for up to one (1) month.
  • The UMD department or student organization will post the banner behind the plexi glass.
  • Kirby Student Center will remove banners at their expiration date. If the department or student organization would like to keep the banner, it must be picked up from the Kirby Welcome Desk on the day of expiration or it will be recycled.  
  • Once a banner has reached its expiration date, the UMD department or student organization may request another banner space, if available. 
  • Welcome Desk stairwell
    • Between first and second floor: banners #1 and #2
    • Between second and third floor: banners #3 and #4

Other Locations Outside Kirby Student Center

  • Outside entities may post an 8.5x11” flyer on the two posting areas located in the Ven Den (Bohannon Hall) and outside of the Superior Dining Center. It is the responsibility of the business to both post AND date the flyer.
